A great read... when does the next one come out?, July 14, 2011

I finished the book in a few days; I honestly found it difficult to put the book down and stop reading. Science fiction and fantasy are my favorite genres and they really nailed a great mid point. There's enough science for it to be "science fiction" without being the "hard science fiction" that would appeal to a narrower audience and just prompt a lot of nerds to call out the authors on physics issues or something similar. The story line was very engaging and the world they've envisioned, including the political and demographic groups made for a great setting. Overall, I enjoyed the characters and found them fairly fleshed out. I was surprised at several points but it never felt like the authors just tossed in a dues ex machina resolution or hadn't fully planned out the story. Yes! When you get to the end, you'll HAVE to buy the next volume! This is a fascinating and exciting story and you'll WANT to read REVELATIONS!The authors created an excellent "world" in Rise of the Magician and didn't bore me to death describing it. Instead, I learned of it through the actions and interactions of the characters. I liked the characters (except the ones who were supposed to be hated - yep, they were nasty!)! There were so many things I still wanted to learn about the characters and their world, that I couldn't just let Samantha and Richard ride off into the sunset on that motorcycle and move on to a different story. The authors are re-editing REVELATIONS and then it will be every bit as good as this one!
